Spearfishing

The reefs around Rincon hold everything from snapper and grouper to lionfish. Beginners can start in shallow water near shore — the visibility is excellent and the fish are there. Experienced divers can push deeper into world-class territory. Local dive shops rent gear and run guided trips.

Check local regulations before diving. Lionfish are invasive — take as many as you want.

Book charters at least a week out in peak season (Dec–Apr). Bring sunscreen.

Field Notes

BEFORE YOU GO

Getting around

Rent a car — you need one. Most beaches, fishing spots, and day trips require driving. Rideshare exists but is unreliable outside town.

Fly into

Aguadilla (BQN) is 20 minutes away — easiest option. San Juan (SJU) is 1.5 hours east with more flight options.

Best months

December through April: surf is up, whales are in, weather is dry. Summer is quieter, warmer, and still excellent for fishing and water sports.
